TOPIC: Windows 10 reinstall

Windows 10 reinstall 9 years 5 months ago #334

I was running CPT on Windows 10 Insider preview. During the last but one upgrade, Windows went into a 'groundhog day' scenario: downloading the next build; installing it then re-booting the laptop to the previous build. After 3 weeks of trying to fix it, I re-installed the OS and am up to date. I now have to re-install all my software. So, question? After I re-install CPT and register it, is there a quick fix to get me back to where I was? Can I copy some folders or files into the new installation to make it work the way it did? I have the whole file structure backed up. (I hope!) Thanks...

Hi Irulats,

I assume with "whole structure backed up" you refer to the folder where you stored your database and the sub-folders of backups? If so you can just copy them to any folder after re-installing CPT. Just browse for the database file for the first time you run CPT and afterwards CPT should recognize the new folder as the default folder.

CPT itself has to be installed by using the setup. A simple copy & paste of the file folder does not work.

These type of questions are best submitted by creating a support ticket.

Thanks,
Stefan

Many thanks for that advice Stefan. I'll try that tomorrow. Apologies also as I only realised after I posted that I was in the wrong section of the forum. :(

Hi Stefan,

Everything went well. I had to copy 2 folders Chess Position Trainer & Chess Position Trainer 4 into my documents and now everything works as before. I didn't even have to re-register. :)
