persistent problem since v.4 ??? 10 years 3 months ago #164

I've opened a support ticket but no response.

I installed v.5 yesterday but EXAMPLE.CPT did not open automatically as User Manual says. Rather it prompts me to open one then refuses to open EXAMPLE.CPT saying I must "update it before opening it" (or words to that effect).

Next, it will not allow me to create a new database saying "many reasons" like insufficient read/write privileges although I am logged into Windows XP as an Administrator.

I've read other users on a chess site complain of the exact same problem with v.4 so I know this is a "known bug" that has not been fixed.

I really wanted this thing to work for me but am beginning to doubt it will.

Hi Malcolm,

thank you for trying out CPT. I understand that really want to get it working NOW, but please allow me a response time of two days. I've just answered your support ticket.

I'm not aware of any general / known bug relating to the issue you describe. In my ticket reply I give you some potential reasons for the issue. Most likely it is the Microsoft .Net Framework, which is automatically installed by the operating system on your computer. Some files can get corrupted or are even missing. This happens under Windows XP more often than Windows 7 from my experience. In any case it is out of scope of CPT, but can be easily fixed by using the repair function or installing a fresh new version.

You mention other sites where users report this issue. Please provide me a link and I will give them some guidance for fixing the issue too.

Thanks,
Stefan

I also tried removing CPT5 and removing .NET Framework 4 and user profile completely then re-installed .NET Framework afresh before a new installation of CPT5. Same problem encountered.

I'm running WinXP in a virtual machine using VMWare.

Here's the 2 error messages from the clipboard. THe first is when trying to open EXAMPLEDATABASE.CPT the second is when trying to start new data base. THey are separated by a line like this
