Right now I'm evaluating different options for integrating a forum again. This has been a quite popular request in the past. The idea is to provide CPT users a place to help each other and share best practice.
Is there any (chess) forum out there, which you really like (feel free to post a link)? Why?
Any forum technology, which you really like?
What would you like to see in a forum on this site? Categories? Just topics related to CPT or maybe some "other" chess topics as well?
The forum is not supposed to substitute the support system. This will remain for me the most efficient way to keep track of issues and feature requests.

Stephan, a forum would be great. As a new user I have lots of questions concerning the best way to use some of CPT's features and sometimes just understanding what a feature does.
It's just my opinion, but I think the forum should be specifically for CPT and not chess in general. There's plenty of other chess sites for openings, tactics, players, etc. How to use CPT is what would make it unique.
The forum software I'm most used to is vBulletin. I like it.

I very much like the idea...and agree that it really should just be a place for users to exchange tips. I know I have a feeling I am not using my CPT optimally and would love a place to exchange ideas. The format really is not so important to me...of course I say that now but the easier to use, the better.
I particularly like the rybka forum linked from the chessok.com site and the chesstempo.com site. Both are active with lots of user (and moderator) support.
Links and comments to tutorials and news are a must.
Sharing on ideas for opening repertoire development, training, and linking of repertoire/topics would be a big help. A subtopic on particular openingss would probably also be of interest to many CPT users.
While there are too many 'jerks' for my taste...at least that post on the 'computer chess' group, I would agree, it is not bad. I don't know how expensive it is to maintain...that should probably be Stephan's primary concern. Whatever 'works' is fine with me.
I like Chess Tempo's Forum very much. However, that forum demands lots and lots of Richard's (Chess Tempo's developer) time explaining 10 times the same basic thing that people asks and asks again.
Anyway, it will be a very good thing to have a place that will allow us to exchange files and expertise.
As a corollary of the above ditto, the most important feature of a Forum is a good *search tool*.
The Chess Tempo's software search tool, for instance, is a bad one and Richard teach us that is better to use Google in advanced mode, to search within the domain www.chesstempo.com.
Thus, in my opinion, a good search tool is the first criteria to choose a forum software.
If possible, the creation of a section named "Materials in Portuguese" will be helpful to aid people that is using the CPT's Portuguese translation.
I like the forum chesspub.com very much.
It is very easy to find what you are looking for, it is well organized and the moderators ensure that all posts are kept within the topic.
The moderators are extremely important for the forum.
Stefan, I think that reviving the forum is great idea. As other people mentioned already, I'm also for leaving the forum to be CPT-specific. There are a lot of general chess forums so there's no need to duplicate that functionality. As Alvaro mentioned, good search is a key here. For the contents, I believe you should start with few key categories ie. CPT Usage Tips, CPT Questions (where users could help others, allowing you to concentrate on real bugs and troubleshooting), CPT Repertoire - users can request extending the list if they feel it's necessary. As a start, you could post some tips that are currently scattered here and there in the comments, that would be a great help with newbies. I also like the idea of topics pinning, which you could use for guidelines and HOWTO's for newcomers. But please don't be tempted with using forum as a replacement of a good documentation;) There is nothing more annoying for me than going thru 100's of posts in a topic before I get a general idea what is, and what is not working in the latest version.
My vote goes for CPT related topics only and would hope that users specifically answer questions directly, if they are able to, as this prevents other users following long threads and still being none the wiser at the end of it. I think previously there has been a good record of precise answers. One topic I would raise for discussion is "would you share files?"

Hey, I don't know if there is a place for it but I think I found a bug.
Came upon position that is reading as mate, but it is not, because of en passent. Program is not recognizing and reading as mate.
